Setting up a Flex Hub: Networking

The Flex System Hub is the main controller for the Flex system. It can control Flex Modules that provide access to hardwired doors. Flex Hubs will fetch and store CyberKey programming for single key vaults.

Programming

The Flex Hubs need to be configured for your network. This step is started on the Cyber Audit Web; you will add the network information in the properties of the Flex Hub.

To begin, log in to the website.

You will navigate the top menu bar to Communicator and choose “Flex System” Choose “Hubs.”

Select the subsystem to add the Flex Hub. Click the Plus sign at the top right to add the hub.

Enter the ID, which is the serial number of the hub. Then provide a name for the hub.

In the “Networking” section, we will provide the network information. If you have a simple network, you can use Automatic (DHCP).

However, if you have a more complex network, you will want to use the Manual settings. The information you will need. The IP address that has been assigned for the Flex Hub. The subnet for the IP address. The Default Gateway is optional but may help with the connection. The Primary DNS is required. The Secondary DNS is optional.

If you are also using a Proxy Server, you can check the box to use the Proxy Server. Additional information will be required. The Server IP address, and the port number. User Name and Password are Optional.

Once the settings are saved, you will need to load the settings to the flex hub.

This can be tricky because if you are working with a Flex II hub, you can click “Generate Flex II Config.” This will download the files to your local computer. Then you will load the files to a small capacity USB flash drive, ideally with a capacity no larger than 8 GB.

If you are working with a Flex hub that is not a Flex II, you will use the CyberLink to download the settings. Launch the CyberLink and from the menu, choose the “Flex Hub USB transfer” option. You will want to connect a small capacity USB flash drive to the computer for this and select it as the destination.

Plug the Flash drive to the Flex hub you are setting up. It will take a moment to load the settings. If you have a keypad I/O module with a  screen, it will display the status.

Once completed, you will see in the Flex Hub list a green circle with OK next to it. That means it has made a connection to the site.
