Note: ValidiKey 2 will only communicate with a server that has the gen 2 server components installed. Ensure the gen 2 components are installed by contacting the CyberAudit-Web server in a browser at this URL:

https://[server address or IP]/endpoint/services/test/

If properly set up, you will get a response in your browser showing component versions and settings.

A ValidiKey 2 is added to a CyberAudit-System in three steps:

  1. Enter the Serial number and network settings of the ValidiKey 2 into CyberAudit-Web
  2. Configure a USB Drive with the vault settings
  3. Insert the USB Drive into the ValidiKey to its settings so it will connect to the CyberAudit-Web server

Add the ValidiKey 2 to CyberAudit-Web

From the Communicators menu, open the Validikey 2 list page. VKListSelect.png

In the Add new ValidiKey page,
  • Enter a name for the ValikiKey 2.
  • Enter the serial number of the ValidiKey 2 into the ID field.
  • Adjust the time zone of the ValidiKey 2 if it will differ from the Subsystem default.
  • Update network settings as appropriate. ValidiKey 2 is a web client and will attempt to reach CyberAudit-Web via a secure socket. Ensure that the networking settings are correct so that the ValidiKey 2 can reach CyberAudit-Web from the subnet where it will be installed.

  • Other settings such as Key Return Policy and the selection of ValidiKey Managers may be entered now or later and may be changed at any time although setting a manager with an RFID access card is recommended so that Admin Functions will be available. The settings in the ValidiKey will be automatically updated as long as it maintains its network connection to CyberAudit-Web.
  • Enter or change any additional settings as desired.
  • Click Save to save the new ValidiKey 2 record. The ValidiKey 2 list page will now show the newly added ValidiKey with a change icon.

Configure a USB Drive with the vault settings

Locate a USB flash drive and insert it into your local workstation. USBMemoryStick.jpg

From the ValidiKey listing page, click the Generate USB Config link in the upper right corner of the page.

Save the file to the USB drive. Then "safely remove" the drive from the local workstation.

Connect the ValidiKey 2 to power. Allow about 15 seconds for it to start up. The ValidiKey will emit three quick beeps when it is fully started.

Tap the screen when the Factory Mode message appears. This will cause the ValidiKey 2 vault to unlock its access door. Open the door. Mode0Welcome.png
insertUSB.jpg Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port of the ValidiKey. It will read the ValidiKey setup information and report "Config Applied. You may remove the USB drive." when the update completes. The ValidiKey will now attempt to connect to CyberAudit-Web. Use the Connection and Settings buttons in the Admin Functions to test and troubleshoot the connection.
