A USB drive is used to configure a ValidiKey when it is first added to a system. It may also be used to provide update files, update the configuration, and to fetch diagnostics when the ValidiKey is unable to communicate with the server.
A ValidiKey will work with most USB drives formatted with FAT or FAT32. A new or factory reset ValidiKey will read a configuration file, look for update files, and write diagnostics when the system has started up and a USB drive is inserted.
If the ValidiKey 2 is already part of a system, it will only read and write to the USB drive if the ValidiKey 2 is in admin mode. This prevents key holders who are not managers from making changes or fetching information.
Since the USB Drive for a ValidiKey 20 is behind the panel and protected by a CyberLock, it will read and write to the USB drive whenever a USB drive is inserted.
CyberAudit-Web can generate a compressed file named vk.tar.gz by clicking the Generate USB config link in the upper right corner of the ValidiKey 2 and ValidiKey 20 listing pages. This file contains configuration files that match the settings from the properties page of each ValidiKey 2 and ValidiKey 20 in the system.
