Missions enable a group of CyberKeys to be shared among any number of people. All CyberKey Vaults use missions to dispense keys. When a person needs a key they may "check out" a CyberKey from a vault or from another available group and communicator by entering their Mission# or scanning their RFID Access Card. When that key is "checked out", the key is assigned to that person and subsequent audit trail events downloaded from that key will be associated with that person. When the key is returned to the vault or other communicator, it is checked-in and disabled. And the person is no longer associated with that key.

Each mission has:

  • A set of access permissions
  • A duration and optional end-of-life
  • Key settings

There are two types of missions:

  • Recurring - This mission may be issued and checked-in an indefinite number of times. When it is loaded into a key, it becomes Active. When the key is returned, it becomes Open.
  • Single Use - This mission may be issued one time. After that it is no longer available to check out. When it is loaded into a key, it becomes Active. When the key is returned, it becomes Completed. Single use missions are only supported by Web Authorizers and communicators controlled by CyberLink or CyberLink 2 software.

Missions also have a status which may be:

  • Open - The mission is not in use and is available to load into a key.
  • Active - The mission has been loaded into a key. The mission is not available until the key is returned or the key is marked as lost.
  • Completed - When a non-recurring mission's key returns or expires, the mission can no longer be loaded into another key.

Missions may be associated with a Key Ring or ValidiKey Ring if they are enabled for the account.
